Statistical investigation

Task Description :

We have been learning about statistics, and how to carry out a statistical investigation.

This week we focused on practising different steps of the PPDAC system which are : Problem, Plan, Data, Analysis, Conclusion. Our first task was to complete the Data Detective slides, that had us run a mini statistical investigation about our class’ favourite soft drink flavours.  I learnt how to work as a team and solve a question  I enjoyed working with my friends and decorating the slides !

Analysing Data: Mean, Median, Mode & Range

We are learning to find and interpret the mean, median, mode and range of dataset

Using a set of slides we explored definitions , work through examples , and practise calculating these values with different datasets . We also discussed how these statistical measures help us understand data patterns and make informed decisions to apply our learning , we completed practise questions and solved real world problems .

Healthy Living

LI: Understand the importance of physical health in overall well-being. Identify ways to improve physical health.

We have been revising what we know about Te Whare Tapa Wha. We focused especially on Taha Tinana.  Today, we created a Physical Well-being Plan by setting three personal goals to improve our health. We also designed Healthy Living Posters to encourage others to stay active, eat well, and take care of their bodies! Our posters include important facts about exercise and nutrition, along with positive messages to inspire healthy habits.

Read the passage then answer the questions.

How Movement, Exercise, and Nutrition Affect Well-being

Physical health is an important part of our overall well-being. It affects how we feel, how much energy we have, and even how well we can focus in school or at work. Three key factors that influence physical health are movement, exercise, and nutrition.

Movement and Exercise

Our bodies are designed to move! When we are active, our muscles grow stronger, our bones stay healthy, and our hearts work better. Regular exercise helps us maintain a healthy weight, improves our mood, and reduces the risk of illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes. Exercise also releases chemicals called endorphins, which make us feel happier and more energetic.

There are many ways to stay active, such as playing sports, dancing, walking, or even helping with chores at home. The important thing is to find activities we enjoy and do them regularly.

The Role of Nutrition

Eating healthy food is just as important as being active. Our bodies need a variety of nutrients to function properly. Fruits and vegetables provide vitamins and minerals, while protein helps build strong muscles. Drinking enough water keeps us hydrated, and limiting sugary foods helps prevent health problems like obesity and diabetes.

A balanced diet includes a mix of different food groups. Eating too much junk food can make us feel tired and sluggish, while eating healthy foods gives us the energy we need to stay active and focused.

Taking Care of Our Physical Well-being

To improve our physical health, we can:

  • Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day.
  • Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables.
  • Drink water instead of sugary drinks.
  • Get enough sleep to let our bodies recover and grow.
  • Reduce screen time and spend more time being active.

When we take care of our bodies, we feel stronger, happier, and more confident. Good physical health helps us enjoy life and do our best in everything we do!

Understanding the Four Walls of Hauora

We are learning about Hauora and the four areas of well-being.  Today, we used Google Drawings to create a Hauora Mini-Poster. We designed a house and labeled the four walls with Taha Tinana, Taha Wairua, Taha Whānau, and Taha Hinengaro. Inside each wall, we wrote or drew ways to look after that part of our well-being.

Hauora Worksheet

Taha Whānau Spending more time with friends and family
Taha Hinengaro Going outside to touch grass and cool off

Rounding Rules

We are learning to round numbers to make data easier to use.

Today, we used Google Drawings to create a Rounding Rules Poster.  We wrote the key steps for rounding and added examples for rounding to the nearest 10, 100, and 1,000. To make our posters engaging, we used colours, images, and number lines to explain the rules clearly.

While exploring an old attic, twins Mia and Jake found a dusty snow globe with a tiny Christmas village inside. When Mia shook it, the snow began to fall—not just inside the globe, but all around them. Suddenly, they were standing in the village.

Continue your creative writing down here:

When they  saw snow ,trees and an old but fancy cabin realising they were in the snow globe! Panicking they banged on the glass trying to find a way out . Screaming and shouting they called out for help as their voice echoed “Help…..!” Mia and Jake gave up breathing heavily sitting on the cabin’s bench Mia and Jake looking at each other sighing then Mia said “how do we get out of here i’m scared!” Jake said he was scared too but that they will get out of there as he consoled her .

Suddenly they heard a noise and ran inside the cabin and hid behind the sofa. They both got more scared as they heard big thumps coming closer to the cabin suddenly as the door opened slowly . A old man with a white beard and red clothes came in He said with a deep old man voice “ Where are you kids” Mia and Jake were to scared to come out so they stayed down But Jake sneezed causing the old man to hear them as he walked closer to them Mia and Jake got more scared holding hands . But as the old man moved the sofa he stared at the kids as Mia and Jake lifted up their heads saying “Santa??!!”  Santa smiled as he chuckled.

“Hahahaha”  The kids were no longer frightened so they got up and hugged Santa.  Santa said “ what are you guys doing here?” Their smiles turned into a frown. “ We’re lost, this is our snow globe” Said Mia Santa said don’t worry I will help you get out “Bitty Boppity Boo!” The floor shaked as the kids called “SANTA!!” . Thump when    the kids fell on the floor in their house they both ran up quickly to their snow globe seeing Santa as they said “Thank you Santa Bye” Mia and Jake felt relieved and thankful for Santa’s kind help .
